Here are some important travel tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience during your visit to Zanzibar:
Climate
The equatorial and oceanic position of the archipelago determines a low annual temperature range.
From June to October the average temperature is 26/28 ° while from November to April it is 28/30 °.
The tourist season in Zanzibar lasts practically 9 months of the year.
July and August are the peak summer season.
From September to November, the climate is very pleasant both day and night. In October and November, there are occasional light but pleasant rains.
From December to February, there is another peak season with consistently nice weather.
In March, the temperature drops again to around 28 degrees Celsius.
Health care
It is the best in Zanzibar in private clinics. Our resort works with great doctors and modern clinics for our guests. The clinic is 800m from the resort and accepts all international travel insurance (Not accept mandatory state insurance and it is only for state facilities). We highly recommend having international travel insurance!
Passport and Visa, travel insurance
To travel in Tanzania, european citizens must necessarily have a passport with at least six months of remaining validity and must have at least one free page.
The cost of the visa is 50 dollars per person and can be obtained upon arrival in Tanzania at the three airports of the country, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. Travel Insurance is 44 usd for adults, 22 usd for kids (we recommend doing it online in advance)
Driving Licence, Cars and scooters
In Zanzibar, driving is by car on the left. In order to drive it is mandatory to have an international driving license.
We recommend resort transfers and taxis. We can also arrange car or scooter rentals, but due to local traffic we recommend using Taxis.
Time zone
Zanzibar operates on East Africa Time (EAT), So, while you're enjoying the tropical vibes of Zanzibar, keep in mind that it's 1 or 2 hours ahead of London time.
Language
The official language of Zanzibar is Swahili, the most widely spoken language in Africa. Most of the people employed in tourism sectors also speak English and in recent years also Italian, Swahili and Czech.
Currency and credit card
The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling (TSh). The most common foreign currency is the dollar (USD). The euro can also be accepted but remember that only banks apply normal exchange rates. For merchants, 1 euro is generally worth 1 dollar, so it’s better to pay with the latter. Credit cards (especially Visa and Master Card) are accepted at the resort and in restaurants (commissions vary between 5% and 10%). There are ATMs on the island
We recommend that you mostly carry cash.
The Tides
Throughout the island and as in most of East Africa there is the tidal phenomenon which occurs about every 6 hours with changes between low and high seas. This phenomenon, however, does not represent in any way a limit or a problem, on the contrary, the tides offer the possibility to arrive, walking, to the colorful coral reef and discover the many marine species. The tidal phenomenon is a spectacle that is repeated several times a day.
